Crimson Desert is an open-world action-adventure game developed and published by Pearl Abyss. Set on the continent of Pywel, the game follows Kliff, a member of the Greymane faction, after an ambush leaves his comrades dead or scattered. His journey involves rebuilding what was lost while uncovering a larger threat affecting the continent.
Gameplay combines open-world exploration with real-time combat. Players can use swords, axes, spears and ranged weapons, while close-quarters systems include hand-to-hand attacks, kicks and grapples. The game also includes traversal mechanics such as climbing and gliding for movement through its environments.
The world of Pywel includes wilderness areas, cities, ancient ruins and other distinct environments. Progression is tied to exploration and encounters with bosses, giving players opportunities to develop their character while discovering the world and its story. The game is designed as a single-player experience.
Crimson Desert launched worldwide on March 19, 2026, simultaneously releasing on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Apple Mac and the Epic Games Store. Pearl Abyss also confirmed compatibility with the ROG Xbox Ally platform at launch.
