Grand Theft Auto V is an open-world action game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. Set in a fictionalized version of Southern California, the game centers on Los Santos and the surrounding Blaine County. Its single-player campaign follows three playable protagonists whose stories intersect as they become involved in increasingly complex criminal operations.
Gameplay combines exploration, driving, shooting, missions, heists, and a variety of optional activities. Players can switch between the three protagonists during much of the story, giving the campaign different perspectives and abilities. The open world includes an urban environment, countryside, beaches, and numerous activities outside the main missions.
Grand Theft Auto V also includes Grand Theft Auto Online, a separate online component built around an evolving open-world multiplayer environment. Players can participate in races, missions, competitive modes, businesses, social activities, and other multiplayer content. Rockstar continues to provide GTA Online content alongside the main game.
The game was first released worldwide on September 17, 2013, for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It was subsequently released on additional console generations and Windows, with the PC version launching in April 2015. The current PC release includes both Legacy and Enhanced versions with different system requirements.
