Alan Wake 2 is a single-player psychological survival horror game developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Epic Games Publishing. It is the sequel to Alan Wake and continues the story of writer Alan Wake following the events of the original game.
The game features two playable protagonists: FBI agent Saga Anderson and Alan Wake. Their stories take place from different perspectives and can be experienced by switching between the two characters. Saga investigates a series of ritualistic murders in the Pacific Northwest, while Alan attempts to escape the Dark Place by rewriting reality through his writing.
Gameplay combines exploration, investigation, resource management, combat, and narrative sequences. Light remains an important gameplay element, with players using it to confront supernatural enemies and survive dangerous encounters. The game features environments including Cauldron Lake, Bright Falls, Watery, and the Dark Place.
Alan Wake 2 was designed as Remedy's first survival horror game and was built as a next-generation title for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It was originally released digitally on October 27, 2023.
